Situated in the heart of the Veneto region, Villa Montruglio can be easily reached from Vicenza (20 minutes) or Padua (40 minutes).

Surrounded by the gentle slopes of the Berici Hills and located on the main tourist routes, it is an excellent stop-off point for those who decide to explore the lower part of the Province of Vicenza.

The Berici Hills

The softly undulating Berici Hills cover an area of almost 200 sq.km to the south of Vicenza. In this fascinating district many prehistoric fossils have been found; in fact, millions of years ago the area was covered by the sea. The hills, covered with large uncontaminated woods, cultivated fields, vineyards and olive groves, are also characterised by the presence of many sites of artistic and architectural interest. For example, over the centuries Palladio’s world-famous masterpiece, the ‘Rotonda’, situated very close to Vicenza, has inspired architects from many different countries.

The entire hilly district of the Riviera Berica is rich in history and artistic treasures and, fortunately, as to a large extent it has remained an agricultural region it still contains vast and almost uncontaminated natural environments.

Nearby Districts

Villa di Montruglio is located within the municipal district of Mossano. Below the little hillside town there is the Valle dei Molini and above it, following a beautiful pathway that leads through olive groves, one can easily reach the Grotta di San Bernardino; it is believed the Tuscan saint lived here for a few years.

From Mossano, which offers splendid views of the plain below, travellers may want to travel along the road that follows the contour of the hills as far as Barbarano, where it is worth visiting the church, the bishop’s palace and the Marinoni Castle.

In the opposite direction, returning towards Vicenza, one will pass through the charming village of Costozza, where the Villa da Schio, with its terraced garden, and Villa Trento-Carli are situated.
